Is it really worthy a full version iteration? Getting a bit ridiculous now.

They only do full version iterations anymore. Doesn't matter all that much: "what's in a name"

Note that 3.6.24 was also released today. They are continuing to patch 3.6.x until two releases after the first ESR release, whenever that ends up happening. See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Enterprise/Firefox/ExtendedSupport:Proposal for details on the "Extended Support Release" proposal designed to address some of the concerns of enterprise customers with respect to the constant churn in major version numbers.

Big number are better than small numbers in the eyes of the public. Internet Explorer is on version 9, Firefox is still on version 3; therefore Firefox is old, buggy and vulnerable whereas IE 9 is new, bug-free and impervious to attack!
No I do not believe this. However public perception matters, thus the numbers game and Firefox up to version 8 in six months. Expect version 9 by the end of the year... |
